Emotional Repression Work with Serena Senteshi

Updated: Aug 22

"You've got me feeling emotions...!" song by Mariah Carey plays in my mind every time I think about emotions. Uf! The very essence of what makes us human and which many of us, if not all at some point in our lives, have denied its existence, pretended they weren't there. Why?

As you'll learn more after listening to this episode, staying small and keeping authentic emotional expression at bay, kept us safe. Helped us to secure the love we so desperately need when we are little. In this episode, Serena explains what happens next and how emotional repression the shapes our life, creates our identity and keeps us bound to suffering until we make the unconscious, conscious.

This was a deeply personal episode for me since emotions, in general, has been my Achilles heel in my own life. Not because of absence or inability to feel them; rather the circumstances by which emotional expression has been shaped and the environment in which they've been quietly living - unacknowledged, repressed in the body and shamed by the world outside of me. But hey, isn't that the reality for all of us to some degree? I bet it is.

Serena Senteshi, a Kiloby Enquiries trainer & facilitator who has sought healing from chronic illness, mental health and other issues after enduring emotional, physical and sexual violence in the first half of her life. Neither non-duality and awareness practises nor individual and group therapy has quite gotten to the root of the trauma and that is when Serena found KI® somatic work - a skillful practice of self-reflection and self-questioning designed to gradually uncover and embody repressed emotions, creating lasting emotional freedom, authenticity, and transformation.

In this episode, Serena reflects on how 12 years of experience practising conscious awareness & presence modalities has never addressed what she describes as "unconscious resistance" which subtly keeps us all from feeling the unprocessed emotions and trauma and consequently, makes us bound to ongoing suffering.

You could literally punch me in the face and I would say " It's ok, let's talk about that"...that type of anger repression, that you're just always nice. So that was my conditioning, just always be peaceful, be nice. And then, after 34 years, I was surprised that I have chronic pain in the body, in my stomach, colitis, very strong pain, suffering, anxiety, cannot express myself, cannot connect with people." - Serena Senteshi
